My good friend and accomplished actress Anais has kindly led me into the field of theatre photography. I love the challenging light conditions and in the dress rehearsal the carte blanche I have in capturing all the raw, dynamic emotion that the actors project off the stage. This production was incredibly difficult to shoot. The lighting was low and I mean really low. Fortunately I had recently purchased the Canon 6d so I was able to confidently boost the ISO settings up to 6400 and shoot without worrying about high noise levels however, even at these light sensitive settings I was still working with low shutter speeds and the action on stage was often quick: onstage dancing, fighting and quick interactions. I did use a Pentax Takumar 55mm that stops down to f1.4 so this helped enormously in capturing all these speedy low lit moments. Sometimes I wish directors would consider the photographer with a few more spotlit moments. Oh well!!
