Model Mayhem has become a great source of contact between myself and models - not just from the UK but from all over the world. I didn't realise how connected one could become internationally just through creating an online presence on Model Mayhem. My web traffic has increased substantially and I've made contact with a lot of interesting people. Krystian contacted me and we decided to meet up and discuss our creative ideas. I had seen his profile online and loved his work and look. I was reminded of sculptures by Michelangelo and his mediterranean looks and youthful appeal would not have been out of place in the Italian Renaissance despite Krystian being Bulgarian. Krystian was also happy to explore body shots as well and his physique was wonderfully proportioned for such work. On the day of the shoot I was also keen to experiment by hanging large strips of black sheet around the studio so that I could shift the shooting angle as wide as 180 degrees which has been impossible due to the narrow width of my drop down screen. What a difference it made especially for the model. There were absolutoley no issues with regard to width and Krystian being able to swing his arms out wide or to lay horizontally to the camera. What a pleasure to have so much more freedom. Krystian is a drama student from Bulgaria and his fun playful nature added to a very relaxed enjoyable session. He was quick to express his own ideas and needed little direction. A great help for any photographer. Being a drama student obviously helps and I think any aspiring model should do at least some drama course to help them feel comfortable with the improvisatory aspect of modelling. We got some great moody shots and I look forward to collaborating with Krystian in the near future.
