July 3rd had been earmarked as a very special occaision for almost a year. It was to be the wedding of my dear friends Remy and Louise. A year flies by very quickly and before we knew it there it was - the wedding - just a week away, then 24 hours and then we were all caught up in the thrill and excitement of it all. My wedding gift was to be the photos but recently I have been driven towards videography and I thought this would be the perfect day to try some video footage and expand my wedding gift as well. A few weeks before I had been going out taking footage and getting the hang of things even getting some paid work as well so I wasn't totally at sea. I knew not to move the cameras around too much and to create smooth compositionally interesting shots. The best thing I could have done was to install Magic Lantern on both my 6D and 7D. This gave me so much more control over focus with the focus peaking abilities of ML and my cameras became like brand new toys. It amazes me that a lot of hardware can be easily transformed through software tweaks without any need for hardcore structural changes. So throughout the day I managed to record snippets of the wedding with full confidence that even if I missed some important moments at least the footage I'd get would be tack sharp and I could play around a bit with pulling in and out of focus. Remy and Louise gave Oscar winning performances. It was great to be around them sharing the roller coaster of emotions they were going through. The wedding itself was a lovely intimate one shaped through the people and interactions that Remy has developed over the years in the North Nineteen Pub. A special pub in the heart of Holloway that he runs with owner Tony Cullen. So despite the preponderance of South African and Australian flags that decorated the tables this was your quintessentially working man's wedding with the English pub as it's heartbeat. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and so did everyone too. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Darham!
