Music Festival Photography: Love Supreme Jazz

Matua Wines have sponsored quite a few music festivals recently including the Love Supreme Jazz festival that took place in Glynde recently. I was lucky enough to be asked to take photos of their stage and the band line-up over two days. This necessitated sleeping over night in a tent under trees with rain pouring down through the night. A wonderful raw adventure of photography and music was had. This also gave me the opportunity to try out the Canon 6d that impressed but also gave me a few concerns regarding focus in low-light conditions. As it rained the first night it was difficult finding solutions to the auto-focus issues I had because of the rain. Although I had used the 6d shooting an Isherwood production I was using a vintage lense that required manual focusing so I never really experienced any issues with the focus. In fact i was bowled over by the low-light performance. This was not the case with the auto-focus when trying to capture late night revellers dancing. Again I stress I did not have enough non rain moments to try resolving the issues. I am glad to say though that I have been asked to photograph Matuas stage and line-up at both Campbestival and Bestival so there will be plenty of time to find technical ways around this auto-focus issue.
